Reagan DeMolay turns 45, at the new hall
1966
In November 1966, Reagan Chapter of the Order of DeMolay marked its 45th anniversary at Reagan Masonic Temple, 1606 Heights Boulevard — the lodge’s hall since 1948, not this corner. The Post called it Houston’s oldest chapter, with more than 400 members and a claim to second place statewide. Houston Chapter No. 201 had been instituted on October 11, 1921; Reagan’s chapter followed on November 8, in the lodge’s first hall at this corner, and grew up on the temple’s second floor.
The boys’ order that won state degree-work championships in the temple’s golden age was, by the mid-sixties, an institution in its own right, meeting two miles south of the building that had housed it.
