The historic district arrives
2008
On February 20, 2008, the City of Houston designated the Houston Heights East Historic District. This corner sits inside that district, inventoried as a potential contributing structure. Heights West, designated December 19, 2007, lies west of Heights Boulevard and does not include 1100 Harvard.
The district’s formal period of significance runs 1891–1918. The 1930 temple falls outside that window, which is why the inventory treats it as potential contributing rather than contributing. The city’s preservation manual also misdates the first lodge at this address to 1918; the present building is 1930, and the lodge’s first hall here rose in 1916. The 1982 condominium conversion predates the district by a quarter century. Few structures on the block carry a fuller written record, which this project exists to supply.
